When Your Vehicle Needs ADAS Calibration

Manufacturers require calibration after any repair that touches or moves a sensor, a camera, or the structure they are mounted to. Common triggers:

• Windshield replacement. The forward camera sits behind the glass. New glass means a new camera position, and the camera must be re-aimed.
• Front or rear bumper repair. Radar units and parking sensors live inside the bumper cover. Removing and reinstalling the cover changes where they point.
• Grille, hood, or fender replacement. The forward radar is usually mounted behind the grille badge or in the lower grille.
• Side mirror replacement. Blind spot cameras and sensors are built into the mirror housings.
• Frame or structural repair. Any change to the vehicle's geometry changes where every sensor is aimed.
• Wheel alignment after a collision. Many systems reference the vehicle's thrust line, so an alignment often calls for a calibration.
