Whether you have a small rock chip from Route 61 or a shattered side window, our glass team can help. We work with all major insurance companies and can often complete repairs the same day, getting you back on the road quickly and safely.
Our Glass Services
Bob Weaver Collision handles a full range of auto glass services. From quick chip repairs to full windshield replacements, we have the parts, tools, and expertise to service any vehicle.
- Windshield repair: Small chips and cracks can often be repaired without replacing the entire windshield. Our resin injection process fills the damaged area, restoring structural integrity and preventing the damage from spreading. Most windshield repairs take less than 30 minutes and are significantly less expensive than full replacement. We can repair many chips and small cracks. Larger damage may require full windshield replacement.
- Windshield replacement: When damage is too extensive for repair -- or when the crack is in the driver's direct line of sight -- full replacement is the safest option. We use OEM-quality windshields and industry-approved adhesives that meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. After installation, we follow manufacturer-recommended cure times before releasing the vehicle, ensuring the adhesive has bonded properly for full structural protection.
- Side window replacement: Broken side windows, whether from an accident, vandalism, or weather, leave your vehicle exposed and unsecured. We carry tempered safety glass for most common vehicle models and can often complete side window replacement within a day. For less common vehicles, we can typically source glass within 24 to 48 hours.
- Rear window replacement: Rear windows, including those with built-in defrosters and antenna lines, require careful handling during replacement. We ensure all defroster connections and wiring are properly reconnected and tested after installation so you don't lose functionality.
- Sunroof glass: Cracked or shattered sunroof panels are replaced with OEM-specification glass that fits your vehicle's sunroof mechanism correctly. Improper sunroof glass can cause leaks, wind noise, and mechanism damage, so proper fitment is essential.
Repair vs. Replacement
One of the most common questions we hear is "Can my windshield be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?" The answer depends on several factors, and our team will always give you an honest recommendation.
Repair is usually possible when:
- The chip is smaller than a quarter (approximately 1 inch in diameter)
- The crack is shorter than about 6 inches
- The damage is not in the driver's direct line of sight
- The damage is not on the edge of the windshield (edge cracks tend to spread)
- There are only one or two areas of damage
- The inner layer of the laminated glass is not damaged
Replacement is recommended when:
- The crack is longer than 6 inches or spreading
- There are multiple chips or cracks across the windshield
- Damage is in the driver's direct line of sight (repair resin can cause slight distortion)
- The crack extends to the edge of the windshield
- The damage has contaminated the inner layers (dirt, moisture inside the crack)
- Previous repair attempts have failed
When in doubt, bring your vehicle in for a free inspection. We'll examine the damage and recommend the most appropriate solution. We will never recommend replacement if a repair will do the job properly -- but we will also never recommend a repair if replacement is the safer option.
Insurance Coverage for Auto Glass
The good news is that many auto insurance policies in Pennsylvania include comprehensive coverage that pays for windshield repair and replacement, often with no deductible for repairs. Here's what you should know about insurance and auto glass:
Windshield repair: Many Pennsylvania insurance policies waive the deductible entirely for windshield chip and crack repairs. This means the repair may cost you nothing out of pocket. Insurance companies prefer repair over replacement because it's far less expensive, so they have every incentive to cover it fully.
Windshield replacement: If replacement is necessary, it's typically covered under your comprehensive coverage. You'll be responsible for your deductible amount, but the remainder is covered by your insurer. Some policies include full glass coverage with no deductible even for replacement -- check your policy or ask us to verify your coverage.
We handle the paperwork: At Bob Weaver Collision, we work directly with your insurance company on glass claims. We'll verify your coverage, submit the claim, and handle all the billing. You don't need to make phone calls or fill out forms -- just bring your vehicle in and we'll take care of the rest. Visit our insurance page for more about how we work with your provider.
Don't delay glass repairs. In Pennsylvania, driving with a cracked windshield that obstructs the driver's view can result in a vehicle inspection failure and potential citation. More importantly, damaged glass compromises your safety. A small chip can spread into a large crack with temperature changes or road vibration, turning a simple repair into a full replacement.
